Wayzata Community Sailing Center is pleased to offer an expanded program for 2010 including learn to sail, basic race techniques and semi-private and private lessons.  This is a great way to live your dream. 

Basic Keelboat Level I

 Our beginning class for adults.  Objectives include:

  • Sailing terminology and parts of the sailboat
  • Rigging and unrigging the boat
  • Weather and wind directions
  • Steering all points of the sail
  • Crewing all positions
  • Leaving/returning to the dock or mooring buoy
  • Basic “right of way” rules
  • Knots and lines
  • Overboard recovery methods

At the conclusion of this class students may optionally complete the US SAILING Basic Keelboat certification for an extra charge.

Basic Keelboat Level II

Intermediate to Advanced adults will enjoy this class. Designed as the next step in your learning experience the class objectives include:

  • Trimming the boat for speed
  • Proper use of spinnakers
  • Introductory racing techniques
  • Heavy weather sailing
  • Navigation and rules
  • Anchoring techniques & securing the boat
  • Crew operations and skills 

Information on how to crew at Wayzata Yacht Club will be supplied.

Classes are offered in two week sessions with classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with a make-up or review day on Friday from 6:00 - 8:30 PM.

Students must bring their own lifejackets.

The classes will be using two J22 keelboats with three or four students and one instructor on each boat.

Refund Policy

If you wish to cancel, you must notify the Wayzata Community Sailing Center  in writing at least two weeks prior to the start of the session to receive a refund (no e-mails or phone messages accepted).  There will be no refunds given after that time.  All refunds are subject to a $30 cancellation fee.
