Who should take this course? Sailors who have completed 6th-12th grade (12-18 years old)), with some sailing experience that have expressed an interest in learning to race.

How are the classes structured? Classes are divided into morning and afternoon groups. The morning program is designed for intermediate sailors wishing to improve their sailing skills and knowledge. The focus will be on improving boat speed, rounding marks, starts/finishes and basic racing tactics. Regattas on Fridays will be encouraged, but not required for sailors.

The afternoon session is our more competitive program and will be divided into a Club Team and a Traveling Team. Both teams will participate in the Twin Cities Youth Sailing Series, held on Fridays at various metro lakes throughout the summer. In addition, the Traveling Team will compete around the Midwest in US Sailing ladder events with the goal of competing nationally. The overall tone of this course will be to help each sailor to his or her highest potential while keeping things fun during the lessons and competitions.

Where are the races? Both morning and afternoon programs are urged to participate in the Twin Cities Youth Sailing Series, held on Fridays at the various metro lakes throughout the summer. For qualified sailors, travel to out of state regattas is available and encouraged. Tuition fees cover training at the sailing center and coaching at regattas. Fees for Twin Cities Youth Sailing and additional regattas are not included. The full schedule of events is available at www.wayzatasailing.org.

Do we need a boat? For this program, both the Lasers and 420’s are provided; students may also bring their own boats.

If you wish to cancel, you must notify the Wayzata Community Sailing Center in writing (via email or US mail) at least two weeks prior to the start of the session to receive a refund (no phone messages will be accepted). There will be no refunds given after that time. All refunds are subject to a $30 cancellation fee. If you wish to transfer your registration from one session to another, we would be happy to accommodate your request, however, you will be charged an additional $10 to cover account fees.
