WCSC Dinghy Sailing Gear List:

 

Sailing, particularly in the spring and fall, will require some equipment purchases.  Rather than sending you into a marine supply store or off to a website to be overwhelmed, we have listed below, in order of pertinence, the gear we most strongly recommend.  At the top of the page, we have listed our favorite stores, brands and websites to shop on.  We will also be having a sale in the spring for WCSC sailors at West Marine before the season begins.

 

STORES, BRANDS, WEBSITES:

West Marine:

Stores carry a mixture of gear- you could always go and try sizes from the brands you are looking at and then purchase what you are looking for online if they don’t have it in store.  The store on Ridgedale occasionally gives discounts to WCSC customers.

Annapolis Performance Sailing:

Look at “dinghy and small boat” gear.  A lot of brands all in one place.

Gill North America:

Look at the “Dinghy/One Design” product selector on the right.

Zhik:

Generally more pricey, but their boots are popular.

Helly Hansen:

Shy away from the “ocean gear.”  Their prices are comparable to Gill.

Musto:

GEAR LIST:

  1. Life jacket- must be US Coast Guard Approved.  We recommend those (similar to the image to the right) that pull down over your head and zip on the side.
  2. Spray Pants- over the shoulder trousers
  3. Spray Top- called dinghy tops/smocks
  4. Boots- dinghy boots with higher ankles are preferable, avoid “unbendable” bottoms
  5. Gloves- colder weather: full fingered, warmer/most popular style: fingerless
  6. Layers- If you have Underarmour layers or other non-cotton shirts/pants, you are already set on this one.
  7. Drysuit- an investment, but very helpful in the cold seasons.  Recommended if you plan on sailing for years to come.  Best to wait until after growth spurts to purchase :)
