Group Program
Target age: 10-18
Available for those ages 5+
One week sessions, Monday-Friday
9:30AM-3:30PM
Who? Have a group of adventurers, explorers, outdoorsmen or generally active kids? Come enjoy the waters of Lake Minnetonka at the Wayzata Community Sailing Center!
Why? Sailing is a life-long sport that can be both casual and competitive. Sailing teaches team work, healthy activity, and an appreciation for the outdoors while providing a unique experience on the water with an air of excitement and exploration. Consider bringing sailing to your group of adventurers!
The group program is structured to provide an opprtunity for outreach programs, community groups, or even just a group of friends interested in sailing, to stick together while they learn wonderful skills. The group sizes at maximum are designed come in at a lesser price than our summer camps. Group lessons come to $200 per sailor (in a group of 4 or 8), amounting to a 15% discount from summer camps. You can't lose!
What will they learn? Our curriculum includes basic sailing concepts from wind identification to upwind sailing, navigation and water safety techniques. They will work together as a team to manage all the jobs onboard including rigging, sail trim, stearing and more. We will include on shore games and sailing related activities to create a memorable group experience and can include such lessons as knot tying and identification of general weather patterns in relation to sailing. If you have a particular outcome you would like to reach for your program, such as merit badges, we can work together beforehand to ensure your needs are met.
The programs generally work best with a group of children that have been, or will be, put together and led by one or two adults for a portion of the summer. Your group leader is welcome stay with the students for the week and work with our instructors both on and off the water.
Our instructors are US Sailing Certified, highly experienced and energetic sailors. Your group will be taught on J-22 keelboats beginning with land demonstrations and leading up to adventure sailing all around Lake Minnetonka! Our target age group is generally between 10 and 18 years, though we are capable of teaching ages 5 and up.
What should they bring? Students must bring their own lunches and snacks as well as a lifejacket, water bottle, change of clothes, water shoes and towel.
Cost? Our group rates are listed below. Should our time structure not fit your needs, give us a call, and we may be able to adjust slightly. The number of people is including your group's supervisor, should they decide to stay.
For 1-4 people with one WCSC Boat: $795
For 5-8 people with two WCSC Boats: $1590
The summer season begins June 10, 2012 and continues through August 30, 2012. No reservations will be taken for the week of July 4th, 2012.
