High School Sailing
Tue. Wed. and Thurs.
3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sailing under the banner of your high school with a group of your peers forges friendships that last a lifetime. We happily invite all individuals from beginners to advanced level sailors to come and participate in the Midwest Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (MISSA) with us.
High school training is conducted with our college sailing program midweek. Starting in April, we train in Club 420s with jib and main sail exclusively. In the fall our sailors train in either Lasers or 420s.
A full regatta schedule has been planned for both sessions. The schedule includes: open local events, the Minnesota State Co-Ed and Single-Handed Championships, as well as Midwest regattas in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, and Grosse Point, Michigan.
Who should enroll in this program? Beginner, intermediate and experienced sailors who are enrolled in 7th through 12th grades.
What if my child has no sailing experience? WCSC welcomes all students who want to join the team. Sailors are grouped according to abilities.
What Students Should Bring - Sailing is a water sport and even good sailors expect to get wet. Students should wear or bring a swimsuit to class. A warm dry change of clothing, windbreaker, towel, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses are also strongly recommended and should be stored in a duffle bag or backpack. Student’s names should be placed on all items brought to class. Note: WCSC is not responsible for any items that are lost or stolen.
1) Students are required to provide their own life jacket. Life jackets must be US Coast Guard approved and fit properly. Students are required to wear their life jackets while on docks, in the water, and aboard boats at all times.
2) Water compatible shoes/dinghy boots must be worn at all time. Ideally, shoes will be white soled and easily fastened. Velcro-fastened sandals, sailing boots, and aqua socks are acceptable.
3) We recommended that each student invest in waterproof sailing gear- a dinghy smock and bibs are necessary in the spring and fall. These items can be purchased at the Sports Hut in Wayzata, West Marine or online at retailers like www.gillna.com. If you have any specific questions regarding recommended clothing please feel free to contact us.
Cost: $395.00 per student per session.
If you wish to cancel, you must notify the Wayzata Community Sailing Center in writing (via email or US mail) at least two weeks prior to the start of the session to receive a refund (no phone messages will be accepted). There will be no refunds given after that time. All refunds are subject to a $30 cancellation fee. If you wish to transfer your registration from one session to another, we would be happy to accommodate your request, however, you will be charged an additional $10 to cover account fees.
