Who should take this course? Sailors who have completed 2nd-8th grade (age 8-15), with some sailing experience that have expressed an interest in learning to race.

How are the classes structured? Classes are divided into morning and afternoon groups. The morning Opti racers train using racing rules and will compete in Green Fleet events open to all ages with similar skill levels. These are low-key, learning races that are held in the Twin City area.
Advanced students meet in the afternoons and will compete in the Red, White and Blue fleet races based on a sailor’s age. This class will hone each sailor’s individual talents and prepare them to move up into the 420/Laser raceboats.

Where are the races? Both morning and afternoon programs are a mix of learning and fun. Sailors are urged to participate in the Twin Cities Youth Sailing Series, held on Fridays at the various metro lakes throughout the summer. For qualified sailors, travel to out of state regattas is available and encouraged. Tuition fees cover training at the sailing center and coaching at regattas. Fees for Twin Cities Youth Sailing and additional regattas are not included.

Do we need a boat? The Opti Race Program sailors are expected to supply their own boat. The Sailing Center has boats available for charter. Please contact us for availability and pricing.

Refund Policy

If you wish to cancel, you must notify the Wayzata Community Sailing Center  in writing at least two weeks prior to the start of the session to receive a refund (no e-mails or phone messages accepted).  There will be no refunds given after that time.  All refunds are subject to a $30 cancellation fee.
